Let God Fight Your Battles!

You may remember the old saying, "I don't get mad, I get even!" It clearly goes against our nature to not do something to get back at someone when they have taken advantage of us.
During the course of your lifetime there is little doubt that you will suffer an injustice at the hands of another person. When an injustice happens to us, how should we react?
Have you ever wondered whether it was right or wrong for YOU to sue someone in a court of law?  Is it ok for YOU to seek revenge? Should we in the Church of God believe that lawsuits against anyone for any reason are ok with God?
It does not take a converted mind to plainly see the direction our nation has taken in the last 20 years. Everyone that I have talked to about this subject agrees that we have become a "sue-happy" society. However, these same people that lament the course of society will not hesitate to sue someone if the "need" arises.
In the context of this article I want to prove that true Christians are biblically forbidden to sue anyone in a court of law.
Scripture tells us that we must walk as Jesus Christ walked.

1John 2:6  He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
This leaves us no room to make our own tracks! The way we live must be guided with the same commandments, the same judgments, the same thoughts, and the same attitudes that guided Him.
How many of us really abide in Him? Do our actions prove us to be walking as He walked? Additionally, since we claim to have the Holy Spirit, do we realize that we no longer own ourselves?
1Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Since we must walk as Jesus walked, and since His life has already been lived, the judgments we are to make in any given situation are already decided for us. Jesus Christ has already made them. We simply choose whether we will obey and live as He lived and walk as He walked.
Let's consider Jesus Christ's words in Matthew 5:40-41.
40        And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41        And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Jesus words clearly teach that if a man sues you at law do not quarrel with him, give him over and above what he asks. Can you truly say that this is the way you live your life?
Consider this! Disputes that end up in court are between 2 people that strongly disagree! Yet, if you find yourself in this situation, you must give someone over and above what they are asking for, even if you believe they are wrongfully taking it from you.
But what is so wrong with taking legal action against someone?
Let's consider 1 Corinthians 6:1-9.
1        Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
2        Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3        Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4        If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5        I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

Verses 4-5 do not convey the intended meaning in the KJV. The Weymouth
New Testament correctly states verses 4-5 as:
1Co 6:4  If therefore you have things belonging to this life which need to be decided, is it men who are absolutely nothing in the Church--is it *they* whom you make your judges?
1Co 6:5  I say this to put you to shame. Has it come to this, that there does not exist among you a single wise man competent to decide between a man and his brother,

This is a correct rendering of Paul's original words. It makes better sense to
have a competent, wise man to judge a fault between brethren, instead of
someone barely capable of knowing right from wrong. Since when have
such shameful actions become legitimate practices in God's Church?

The church at Corinth had many problems. Paul sums up their covetous
heart by saying in verse 6-9:
6  But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
7        Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8        Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
9        Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?.....
Defraud is number 650 in Strong's Concordance. It is defined as:
G650
ἀποστερέω     apostereō    ap-os-ter-eh'-o
From G575 and
στερέω stereō (to deprive); to despoil: - defraud, destitute, kept back by fraud.
This word is used in Mark 10:19.
Mar 10:19
Thou knowest1492 the3588 commandments,1785 Do not3361 commit adultery,3431 Do not3361 kill,5407 Do not3361 steal,2813 Do not3361 bear false witness,5576 Defraud 650 not,3361 Honor5091 thy4675 father3962 and2532 mother.3384
Of course we all realize that "defraud not" is also the same as "Thou shalt not covet." Why is suing someone so wrong? Because when we feel wronged by someone or some incident, we want justice or restitution. This usually comes in the form of what someone else has, because we consider that it is rightfully ours. We reason this way because we are covetous. Suing someone in a court of law during a dispute is unrighteousness because we defraud them! If we walked as Jesus Christ did we would let God fight our battles. God simply wants to know if we will wait on Him to deliver us from evil. Remember Matthew 6:13 in the model prayer? "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen."

We should pray for this everyday and we should wait for God to do it! Waiting on God means that you may have to give away something you have that someone else wants… and then give them extra!  The context here is letting yourself be defrauded rather than suing someone in a court of law!
Colossians 3:5 says: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
These are attributes of our carnal character that we must mortify or put to death, not benefit from monetarily! Suing someone is unrighteousness. It is not Godly, and those that practice it shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
