What Is A True Christian?
What is a true Christian? Ask 10 people that question and you will get 10 different answers! There seems to be as many answers to this question as there are religions in this world.
According to "World Christian Encyclopedia : A Comparative Survey of Churches and Religions in the Modern World," Oxford University Press, (2001), "There are 19 major world religious groupings in the world which are subdivided into a total of about 10,000 distinct religions….Within Christianity, they have identified 34,000 separate groups…. "
34,000 separate groups!! There is enough difference of belief among 34,000 separate groups that they cannot agree on what it takes to be a Christian. Even a cursory reading of several web sites shows the magnitude of dis-agreement and worldly lies and confusion in regard to what a Christian is.
Jesus Christ stated in John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Jesus said that we are sanctified (set apart) through the truth. God's word is the truth. Let's see what God says a true Christian is.
Acts 11:26
And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
G5546 Christianos khris-tee-an-os'
From G5547; a Christian, that is, follower of Christ: - Christian.
A true Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. We read in Amos 3:3, Can two walk together, except they be agreed? The only way we can walk with Christ is to be in complete agreement with Him. Through this process of following the lead of Jesus Christ we become like Him and gain the mind of Christ. 1Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
When we have the mind of Jesus Christ, we think, act, believe, and talk like Christ. What are some of the belief's of Jesus Christ?
1) Jesus Christ taught that we should keep the Law of Moses.
John 5:39-47
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
:45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
Because people reject the Law of Moses they refuse to come to Jesus Christ and believe His words about how to have eternal life. Does that sound like a Christian?
2) Jesus Christ kept the Sabbath.
Luke 4:16
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Isn't it strange that the Sunday keepers today are called "Christian." Most of them know that Saturday is the 7th day, yet they continue to keep the 1st day of the week. They do not follow Jesus Christ at all!
3) Jesus Christ kept the Holydays.
Luke 22:14-15
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
John 7:37
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
It is obvious from the above scriptures that anyone that does not keep the Law of Moses, or keep the Sabbath and Holydays is not a true Christian.
ONLY those people that follow Him and live as He lived can be considered a true Christian.
This is not a deep spiritual understanding, yet many in God's Church are guilty of calling the churches of this world "Christian," when in fact they are the Synagogue of Satan because they teach that you do not have to follow Christ and walk as He walked.
Jesus Christ warned of those that would come in His name and deceive many.
Matthew 24:3-5
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
34,000 separate groups that call themselves "Christian" certainly sounds like many have been deceived!
The Apostle John wrote the book of 1 John approximately 60 years after the death of Jesus Christ. Did John teach the message of the Sunday churches today, or was he still teaching that we should walk as Jesus Christ walked?
1 John 2:3-6
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1Jo 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
If you are going to be a true Christian, you will too.
